about yemimamusic

Yemima is an Israeli born, Texas-raised world music artist based in Jaffa, Israel. She sings in English, Hebrew & Yemenite-Hebrew  combining Middle Eastern sounds with Americana, folk-rock, dream-pop, gypsy-jazz and classical traditions. Yemima’s namesake is her great-grandmother, the matriarch of her grandfather’s lineage, whose spirit is rooted in Yemenite heritage.

Yemima graduated from the Center for Middle Eastern Classical Music in Jerusalem, focusing on Arabic oud. She performs with music duo Saïda סעידה سعيدة - a Balkan-Middle Eastern joined by ethnomusicologist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, Jonathan Ataria. RikOudריקעוד is a Dance-Music Duo joined by NY based dance artist and choreographer, Brianna Lopez

Her 2024 release of “When We Get Lost”,  is a lyrical journey that explores place, time, connection, and imagination. It follows the 2022 release of the Andalusian-inspired instrumental version of the song. The song was recorded in Tel Aviv (Shay Moshe Moshe) & Istanbul (Mumin Sesler & Ensemble). The video was filmed in Jaffa, Israel and Dahab, Sinai.

On her  2014 album, Same Treasured Land, Yemima collaborated with Zhenya Rock of the Flying Balalaika Brothers (Austin, TX) to generate melodic and rhythmic textures and tempos that inspire movement and feeling. Her first EP, A Full Moon Is Rising, was produced and recorded in 2012 in Austin, TX, showcasing her passion for songwriting and blending contemporary and world music.

She continues to write original music, perform and collaborate with local artists, finding inspiration from the people and landscapes she encounters around the globe.
