About Yemima

Yemima is a soulful singer-songwriter who expresses her love of the human spirit through warm, gentle, honest music. She sings in English, Hebrew and Yemenite-Hebrew, combining Americana, Folk, Rock, light-pop, gypsy jazz and world sounds.

On her 2014 album, Same Treasured Land, Yemima collaborated with world-class musicians to generate melodic and rhythmic textures and tempos that inspire movement and feeling.
Her first EP, A Full Moon Is Rising, was produced and recorded in 2012 in Austin, TX, showcasing her passion for songwriting and blending contemporary and world music.

Yemima has performed and worked with multi-instrumentalist Zhenya Rock of the Flying Balalaika Brothers throughout the creation and production of her original work. She has also recorded and performed in Austin with violinist Roberto Riggio of Atash, Kate Priestley of KP & the Boom Boom, Michelle Alany of Nefesh, guitarist Drew Howard of Kalu James as well as local musicians in Israel, Russia, and Tanzania.

Yemima holds two degrees from the University of Tel Aviv and University of Texas at Austin in clinical social work. Her community work integrates musical therapy and activities with at-risk youth, survivors of sexual violence, senior adults and people living with HIV/AIDS. She has been profiled for her work in Tanzania (www.utexas.edu/features/2008/abroad/).

Currently fulfilling a long time dream of studying Middle Eastern Music in Jerusalem, at the Center for Middle Eastern Classical Music, Yemima continues to write original music, perform and collaborate with local musicians, finding inspiration from the people and landscapes she encounters around the globe.
